The AMPATH Kenya Research Program seeks to improve the health of the Kenyan people by answering the toughest questions our policy leaders and health care providers face.  Researchers from our network of 20+ partner institutions are dedicated to strengthening health systems, informing more effective public policy, and finding insights that improve the wellbeing of our patients in Kenya and other resource-limited settings around the world.

$247+ million in research awards

Funding from the NIH, CDC, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, and others

60+ active studies

Research in adult medicine, basic science, cardiovascular disease, oncology, pediatrics, pharmaceuticals, public health, and more

1,300+ publications

Including many peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals that inform programs and policies in HIV/AIDS, maternal child health, oncology, non-communicable diseases and more.

PARTNERSHIP IS THE FOUNDATION OF OUR EVERY ACHIEVEMENT.

AMPATH’s success is rooted in the power of strong counterpart relationships. This essential element of partnership is at every level of our research activities and forms the basis of every award we receive, every study we conduct, and every publication we produce. All of our research starts and ends with the development of counterpart relationships between Kenyan researchers and our network of research collaborators from more than 20 institutions in North America, Europe, and Africa.

WE BUILD ENDURING, FUTURE-FACING RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE.

The AMPATH Research Network is led by Indiana University and committed to building a stable, resourced infrastructure for high-quality, high-priority research in Kenya. This includes a state-of-the-art research facility in the heart of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya.

We seek to prepare the next generation of researchers from Kenya and our partner institutions. Our goal is to nurture a supportive, research-intensive culture that creates successful independent investigators working in collaborative, interdisciplinary research teams that seek to identify innovations that improve global health outcomes.

Trainees, faculty, research staff, and investigators can access lectures discussing the challenges, opportunities and methods of clinical research and research administration. Covering a range of core topics, these lectures are meant to give the listener a basic introduction and overview of some key concepts and principles in research.

Coming Soon: The AMPATH Research Professional Development Series is organized by the Research Program Office. Live trainings are held on the second Monday of most months. Please click the button above to view the recordings.

This series of lectures was supported by the National Institutes of Health through the Fogarty International Center under Award Number D43TW009105, the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences under Award Number UL1TR000006, and in part by the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute funded by grant award number UL1 TR001108 from the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, Clinical and Translational Sciences Award.
