The Academic Model Providing Access To Health Care (AMPATH) is a program under the auspices of Moi University School of Medicine, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and Consortium of universities whose aim is to provide sustainable efforts in access to health care and to conduct research and training.
Position: co-Director of Research for AMPATH Kenya Research Program and Director of Research for IU Center for Global Health Equity
The IU Center for Global Health Equity is seeking a senior research scientist to serve as Director of Research for the Center and co-Director of Research for the AMPATH Kenya Research Program. This is a key position within the administration of research for both the IUCGHE and the AMPATH Kenya Partnership, the latter being a collaboration between Indiana University and US, Canadian and European partners (AMPATH Consortium), Moi University and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya. We are seeking an active investigator with sufficient experience and maturity to work collaboratively for and within the IUCGHE and the AMPATH Consortium that conducts research to advance the health of people in low-resourced communities. In partnership with AMPATH Kenya’s Co-Director of Research, the North American Director of Research establishes policies and practices that assure high-quality research and research productivity with processes that comply with the policies of major extramural research sponsors and collaborating universities. The Director is expected to commit 30-35% of professional work life to this administrative work and also conduct research in a personal portfolio.
POSITION : AMPATH Pediatric TEam Leader

The role of the AMPATH team leader is to be an ambassador, driver, and guide of the educational mission between the North American and Kenyan institutions of the AMPATH consortium. The team leader resides in Kenya full-time and their primary mission is to build capacity through workforce development. They accomplish this by working closely with Kenyan and North American faculty, residents, and medical students to support a positive learning environment that is respectful to all. Specific responsibilities for the Pediatrics Team Leader include: hosting North American visitors, (medical trainees and teaching faculty), in Kenya, coordinating electives for Kenyan learners in North America, and functioning as a visiting lecturer within the Department of Child Health and Pediatrics at Moi University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. The team leader engages with other service and scholarly work to the degree that these advance the primary mission of capacity building and workforce development.
POSITION : AMPATH Internal MEdicine Team Lead
The role of the team lead is to be an ambassador, driver, and guide of the clinical and educational missions in Internal Medicine between the North American, European and Kenyan institutions of the AMPATH consortium. The team lead resides in Eldoret, Kenya full-time, and their primary mission is to build capacity through workforce development and contribute to the delivery of high-quality care. They accomplish this by working closely with Kenyan, North American and European faculty, residents, and medical students to support a positive learning environment that is respectful to all.
This position is supported by the Indiana University Center for Global Health Equity (IUCGHE) and Indiana University (IU) Department of Medicine. The team lead will receive an appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Medicine at IU School of Medicine (IUSM) and a Visiting Lecturer in Internal Medicine at Moi University School of Medicine (MUSOM).
POSITION : Associate Site Director – hematology-oncology
The primary goal of the associate site director (hematology-oncology) position is to increase the impactful clinical and translational research capacity in Kenya, and to expand the field of global oncology among North American trainees. Job responsibilities of the AMPATH associate site director (hematology-oncology) include leading the growth of global research and education advancing screening, prevention, and treatment of cancer, including palliative care. It is expected that the team leader will successfully compete for extramural funding within 1-2 years and publish his/her work with an emphasis on bidirectional innovation (i.e. work will advance health equities in Kenya and around the world). Whereas the focus of the associate site director is on research and/or education (including the development and coordination of curricula and the coordination electives for post-graduate trainees), it is expected that he/she will also take part in limited clinical activities. These include assisting the supervision of resident/student oncology consult service at MTRH and attending in at least one weekly outpatient clinic for patients with cancer or blood diseases.
The associate site director will join a team of North American health professionals who work alongside their Kenyan counterparts at Moi University and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Current team members include senior, mid-level and junior faculty clinicians in multiple disciplines who serve long-term (one year or more) in Kenya, clinical and implementation science researchers, and multiple short-term volunteers. From time to time, associate site directors may provide temporary back-up for the executive field director.
