Molly Mercy Jerono: Finding My Leadership Voice--A Journey with the Women in Leadership Program
Stepping into leadership often feels like being handed a compass without a map. When I was appointed head of pre-award at AMPATH’s Research and Sponsored Projects Office (RSPO), I found myself wondering—who would teach me how to lead? How could I navigate this new responsibility while balancing my roles as a wife and mother?

The Women in Leadership (WIL) Program arrived at just the right moment. It has not only enriched and empowered me, but also transformed the way I approach leadership. Through WIL, I have gained invaluable skills—embracing authentic leadership, achieving work-life balance, learning to say ‘No,’ and finding clarity in my career path.
One of the most profound aspects of this journey has been mentorship. Dr. Eunice Temet, my mentor, has been a guiding light—helping me refine my vision, offering perspectives that shifted my mindset, and recommending books that have shaped my leadership approach. One such book, How Women Rise, resonated deeply, as it mirrored the challenges women in leadership face daily and provided practical strategies for overcoming them.
Beyond the skills and knowledge, WIL has given me something even more powerful—a community of allies. I have connected with incredible women who have supported my growth, both personally and professionally. I have also discovered the power of self-affirmation, vision boarding, and leveraging networks and tools that continue to propel me forward.
Today, I lead with confidence, clarity and purpose. I am still learning, but now, I know I am not alone. Thanks to WIL, I no longer question if I am capable—I know I am.
