Community Celebrates Maternity Hospital Launch
USAID AMPATH Uzima proudly joined Uasin Gishu County in the grand opening of the Mama Rachel Ruto Maternity Hospital. The grand opening of this facility marks a new era in maternal care for the county and USAID AMPATH Uzima provides support through equipment and activities at the hospital. With its advanced facilities and dedicated support, the hospital is poised to make a significant difference in the lives of many.
The event was graced by the First Lady, Her Excellency Mama Rachel Ruto, and Ms. Mary Muthoni Muriuki, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Public Health & Professional Standards.
The First Lady was taken on a guided tour of the new facility, showcasing its advanced capabilities and state-of-the-art equipment designed to enhance maternal and infant health. The tour concluded with a celebratory gathering at the Municipality Office Grounds.
Her Excellency expressed her delight in joining the county to launch various innovations and facilities. “The National Government Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) has listed healthcare as one of the key pillars towards our nation's responsibility. The County of Uasin Gishu continues to be a leader in this sector, and I must congratulate the county government and private sector for the rich investment you have made towards the health of Kenyan citizens,” said the First Lady.
While receiving and welcoming the guests, Hon. Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, the Governor of Uasin Gishu County, shared that the hospital has so far received 1 billion Kenyan Shillings worth of state-of-the-art equipment, including 20 general incubators, operation equipment and more. He added that the facility also has a consignment of drugs from Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to ensure a steady supply of medication in the hospital.
Professor Sylvester Kimaiyo, Chief of Party for USAID AMPATH Uzima, appreciated the collaborative effort the program has enjoyed with the county.
The Mama Rachel Ruto Maternity Hospital, previously known as the West Health Centre, has benefited from the benevolence of various partners. Key contributors to the hospital's development, including USAID AMPATH Uzima, the French Government, Finland, and other generous donors, have transformed the facility into a modern healthcare center equipped to provide comprehensive care for mothers and babies.
The opening of this hospital aligns with the broader goal of Universal Health Coverage, aiming to make quality healthcare accessible to all. The facility will also serve as a Spokes Diagnostics Drone Technology Center, receiving test samples from patients in remote places delivered by air using drones. By reducing travel time for diagnosis and treatment, the facility is set to revolutionize healthcare delivery in the region.
