World Hygiene Day Promotes Importance of Clean Hands
Each year the world commemorates World Hygiene Day on May 5th to advocate for the importance of hand hygiene in healthcare and to bring people together in support of hand hygiene improvement worldwide. This year the theme was “SAVE LIVES – Clean Your Hands.”
In support of the campaign, the Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) AMPATH Program, funded by the Pfizer Foundation, partnered with the Infection and Prevention Control department at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital to advocate for hand hygiene as the first line of defense against antimicrobial resistance. The campaign focused on healthcare providers, urging them to concentrate on their hand hygiene as they performed their daily activities in the hospital.
According to World Health Organization, hand hygiene saves millions of lives every year when performed at the right time and in the right way during healthcare delivery by preventing infections and antimicrobial resistance in healthcare.
