USAID Mission Director Visits AMPATHPlus

USAID‘s AMPATHPlus program had the honor to host the USAID Mission Director Mark Meassick, Deputy Mission Director Bert Ubamadu, and Principal Liaison specialist Patricia Ochieng for a site visit of the program in Uasin Gishu and Bungoma Counties. They met with development partners on the ground and also engaged with healthcare workers and were able to witness and experience some of the achievements made by the program by touring health facilities supported by USAID’s AMPATHPlus.

During the tour, the USAID team visited the Pediatric HIV Clinic at the MTRH Comprehensive Care Clinic where they learned about the clinic’s intersection with Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and the legal support for child protection. They also visited the supported Huruma Sub County Hospital where they witnessed how patients receive the best care with the help of the AMRS POC (AMPATH Medical Records System Point Of Care) electronic medical record system which enables healthcare providers to make timely decisions. The team also appreciated how prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) services are integrated within the hospital and run by the nurses employed by the county government. During the hospital tour the Mission Director was joined by the County Health Management Team led by the CECM for Health Dr. Everlyne Rotich who showcased the hospital’s recently built Huruma Reference Lab for Uasin Gishu County. She noted that the lab would serve not just Uasin Gishu people but the larger western region and sought assistance from USAID towards equipping it.

During this visit the Mission Director emphasized the need for all partners to co-create all their activities with the county governments in an effort to accelerate attaining sustainable health systems.
