COVID-19 in Kenya
Yesterday the first confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported in Kenya. According to the Kenya Ministry of Health, the patient is stable and receiving care at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi. CDC continues to work with the Ministry of Health to support surveillance and prevention activities. The National Emergency Response Committee on Coronavirus preparedness and response will continue to provide strategic leadership working through whole Government approach to respond to this case in the implementation of mitigation measures.
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital has established a task force and has been working hard to prepare. The Ministry of Health has suspended all meetings and public events. Additional screening and quarantine measures are possible.
The AMPATH Consortium is restricting all new travel to Kenya from North America, and working with all current travelers to assist them in returning home as soon as possible. Obviously, this remains a changing situation and we will provide updates as possible.
