BUILT-IN TESTING AT CLINICS
At our 300+ clinical sites in Kenya, we initiate and provide HIV testing, no matter why the patient visited the clinic. This built-in testing has become one of the main sources of new patients enrolling in AMPATH treatment — more than 2,000 people every single month. If a patient tests HIV positive, we immediately begin designing a treatment plan.
HOME VISITS AND TESTING
Home-based counseling and testing is one of our most powerful preventative tools with the promise of finding more than 90% of those who are HIV positive. Not only is it more effective in early diagnosis and preventing disease progression, it also helps us provide less expensive care. More than one million people have been reached in our home-based programs throughout western Kenya.
MOTHER-TO-CHILD HIV TRANSMISSION PREVENTION
Without treatment, the chances a pregnant HIV-positive mother will pass the virus to her infant or newborn are 35%. Together, our in-clinic and home-based programs have lowered mother-to-child transmission to 4.2%, practically preventing it in our treatment areas.
CHILD AND ADOLESCENT CARE
HIV and AIDS affects far more than just patients. Families are disrupted and children are left vulnerable or orphaned. AMPATH Child Health programs step in and make sure families can recover, stay healthy, stick together, and ultimately thrive. And our youth programs make sure teens and adolescents are supported through disclosure of their HIV status and treatment.
