Riley Mother & Baby Hospital
The Riley Mother and Baby Hospital opened in 2009. It is a state of the art 500 bed maternity facility and Neonatal intensive Care unit that was funded by generous donations from the Indianapolis community. The Reproductive Health Division of AMPATH is housed in Riley and has numerous programs aimed at improving the quality of care at this facility. Through faculty exchanges we provide continuous medical education for Kenyan OB-GYNs. On a monthly basis we develop and train providers on evidence based practice guidelines and protocols for obstetric and gynecologic care. We provide a 12-week repeating course in reproductive health to Moi Hospital Interns rotating through the division of Reproductive Health. And through partnership with AMPATH pharmacy we have developed single use emergency medication kits used in MBH to fight obstetrical emergencies.
The Riley Mother and Baby Hospital provides a continuum of care for pregnant women and their babies. Its mission is to provide comprehensive family-focused services to mother and babies and to enhance the care for pregnant women and their infants through state-of-the-art medical care and through education, training and research. The hospital serves as the referral center for women and infants for all of western Kenya. The hospital is a three-story 75,000 square foot building and is part of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Up to 10,000 babies are delivered in the hospital each year (30 babies daily). The neonatal Intensive Care Unit can care for 100 babies at any given time. Countless lives are saved and families are nurtured.
