The Academic Model Providing Access To Health Care (AMPATH) is a program under the auspices of Moi University School of Medicine, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and Consortium of universities whose aim is to provide sustainable efforts in access to health care and to conduct research and training.

POSITION    :           Executive Site Director AMPATH - Kenya / Stephanie and Craig Brater Chair in Global Health

With the executive committee of the Indiana University Center for Global Health Equity, contribute to the IU School of Medicine vision, mission and strategic plan in Kenya, and oversee its implementation in the field. Provide leadership for the fullest possible expression and integration of the tripartite academic mission—care, research and education, and AMPATH’s vision, mission and values.

Provides leadership from the AMPATH Consortium and as the IU lead in Kenya in the development, implementation and evaluation of the AMPATH Kenya strategic plans, goals, and objectives.

In collaboration with counterparts at MU and MTRH and in conjunction with leadership at IUCGHE, provides oversight and strategic guidance on care, education and research in initiatives and programming for the AMPATH consortium in Kenya.

Serve as Indiana University’s and the AMPATH Consortium’s principal representative in Kenya to the leadership of Moi University , Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, the Government of Kenya, the US Embassy, and other pertinent institutions and agencies.

Serve as a member of the AMPATH executive committee and select sub-committees.

POSITION    :           Associate Site Director – Infectious Disease

The associate site director-infectious disease will live and work primarily in Eldoret, Kenya, with some clinical responsibilities in Indianapolis and will report to the executive site director of AMPATH Consortium in Kenya, infectious diseases division director at Indiana University School of Medicine and director of the Indiana University Center for Global Health Equity.

Roles and responsibilities include:

Working closely with Kenyan counterparts, provide support for ongoing efforts to build out a program in infectious diseases at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and surrounding health facilities.

Support and improve formal antimicrobial stewardship efforts. Nurture existing relationships and foster new professional relationships between AMPATH Consortium faculty/staff working in the area of infectious disease and Kenyan partners enabling and empowering Kenyan and AMPATH Consortium faculty members and staff to achieve their professional goals and the goals of their institutions.

Participate in educational activities for Moi University (MU) trainees as directed by the MU Internal Medicine Head of Department.

Lead and/or contribute to scholarly publications (2-4 annually) with Kenyan counterparts.

Provide support as requested by other long-term faculty in Kenya for AMPATH Consortium institutions’ residents, students and fellows on rotation in Kenya, particularly those on the infectious disease rotation.

Serve as an alternate member of the AMPATH executive committee and select sub-committees in the absence of the Executive Site Director.

POSITION    :           Associate Site Director – hematology-oncology

The primary goal of the associate site director (hematology-oncology) position is to increase the impactful clinical and translational research capacity in Kenya, and to expand the field of global oncology among North American trainees. Job responsibilities of the AMPATH associate site director (hematology-oncology) include leading the growth of global research and education advancing screening, prevention, and treatment of cancer, including palliative care. It is expected that the team leader will successfully compete for extramural funding within 1-2 years and publish his/her work with an emphasis on bidirectional innovation (i.e. work will advance health equities in Kenya and around the world). Whereas the focus of the associate site director is on research and/or education (including the development and coordination of curricula and the coordination electives for post-graduate trainees), it is expected that he/she will also take part in limited clinical activities. These include assisting the supervision of resident/student oncology consult service at MTRH and attending in at least one weekly outpatient clinic for patients with cancer or blood diseases.

The associate site director will join a team of North American health professionals who work alongside their Kenyan counterparts at Moi University and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Current team members include senior, mid-level and junior faculty clinicians in multiple disciplines who serve long-term (one year or more) in Kenya, clinical and implementation science researchers, and multiple short-term volunteers. From time to time, associate site directors may provide temporary back-up for the executive field director.

POSITION    :           AMPATH COnsortium medicine Team lead

The IU Center for Global Health Equity is seeking a Medicine Team Leader for AMPATH Kenya beginning July 1, 2024. The role of the team lead is to be an ambassador, driver and guide of the clinical and educational missions in Internal Medicine between the North American, European and Kenyan institutions of the AMPATH Consortium. The team lead resides in Eldoret, Kenya, full-time and their primary mission is to build capacity through workforce development and contribute to the delivery of high-quality care. They accomplish this by working closely with Kenyan, North American and European faculty, residents and medical students to support a positive learning environment that is respectful to all. This is a 2-year position.

POSITION    :           AMPATH COnsortium Surgery Team lead

Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) and Indiana University Health Physicians are actively recruiting a full-time board certified/eligible general surgeon to join the faculty as a clinical instructor to fulfill the role as Surgery Team Lead for the AMPATH Consortium in Eldoret, Kenya. In this role you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Indiana Institute for Global Health, Inc (IIGH, Inc.) and the Indiana Institute for Global Health-Kenya (IIGH-K) as the Surgery Team Lead on the ground in Eldoret.

As the Surgery Team Lead, you will support the tripartite mission by providing exceptional clinical care, educating future clinicians, and promoting advances in research. You will have the opportunity to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and support sustainable systems and protocols of care. In addition, you will function as an ambassador, driver, and guide of the educational mission between AMPATH Consortium institutions around the world and Kenyan partners of AMPATH.
