The Ministry of Health, through Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and AMPATH, tested the Primary-Health Integrated Care for Four Chronic Diseases (PIC4C) model that integrates early diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, diabetes, breast and cervical cancer into the primary care level supported by a robust and seamless referral system.

Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital hosted the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Peter Kamunyo to mark one year since the launch of the Busia Universal Health Coverage (UHC) pilot.

On 12th December every year, the world marks the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) day. This year’s UHC day marks one year since the launch of the Government of Kenya’s Big Four Agenda that targets to achieve universal health coverage. UHC aims to make quality health accessible to all at a price affordable to them. Significant steps towards that goal have been made among county governments country-wide who have taken the initiative to launch their UHC plans.

Last month AMPATH took a big step toward a vision of making access to quality health care available for all. AMPATH teams started a pilot project going door-to-door in Turbo Sub-County, immediately northwest of Eldoret, to facilitate enrollment in an affordable national health insurance product to families, especially those with informal or no employment.

Through Population Health, AMPATH will make health care achievable and sustainable for all by building upon our foundation of care. 

My first impression of IU House is that it is summer camp for physicians. This is most certainly an oversimplified view of a much more complex program, but the camaraderie and spirit at the house elicits a certain charm that I find incredibly compelling.
