Last September, Channel 13 sent Producer DeShong Perry, Anchor Andrea Morehead, and Photographer Scott Allen to Eldoret, Kenya to produce a series of stories about the Indiana-Kenya Partnership.  The six piece series, titled "Compassion For Kenya," chronicled several stories, including the history of the program, how AMPATH doctors responded during Kenya’s post-election conflict, the IU medical student exchange program and the Imani Workshops.

Over the 12 days of the journey, this group trekked to six cities and gathered countless stories from a people gripped by disease, poverty and war. But what they found so inspiring in the people they talked to was the soulful resilience each Kenyan chose to live by. The stories aired during November Sweeps - and the viewing audience loved them!  Channel 13 received hundreds of emails from people who were inspired by the heart-warming stories of the life-saving work being done by Hoosiers thousands of miles away.

We are happy to report that their work was honored last month with an Emmy Award for Best Historic/Cultural Program.  They also received a national Salute To Excellence Award from the National Association of Black Journalists in August.  Congratulations to DeShong, Andrea, Scott and all of Channel 13!
