Sarah Ellen
received her bachelor degree from Wake Forest University and
then went on to receive her diploma in nursing. She
attended the North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, and
then graduated from the St. Vincent School of Nursing and became a
RN. She later earned her M.S. degree from the IU School of
Education, majoring in Elementary Education. She spent two years
living in Jalalabad, Afghanistan with her husband, Joe, and then
lived in Kenya for a year in the mid-1990s. She has been back in
Kenya since 2000 where she created and runs a thriving Child Life
center (Sally Test Pediatric
Centre) within Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital that seeks to
minimize the stress and anxiety children often experience during
their stay in the hospital. Sarah Ellen also works with the Kenyan
students in acquiring visas and passports so they can come to the
U.S. and Canada for training. She has three grown children, a
Kenyan "son" and an Afghan "son."
